About the Director
Aaron Douglas Johnston is an American-born, Netherlands-based film director. His unique process of collaborating with nonprofessionals blurs the lines between documentary and fiction. Johnston’s first feature, Bumblefuck, USA, was described as “astutely observed” and “stealthily compelling” by Variety. After studying sociology at Oxford and Yale, Johnston graduated from the Netherlands Film and Television Academy. He enjoys languages, traveling, and his father’s nuggets of wisdom.
