Isamu Hirabayashi graduated from Musashino Art University in Tokyo). He began his professional life working as a graphic designer. Hirabayashi is now active as a director of television commercials. His short Aramaki (2010) was nominated for a Golden Bear at Berlin, and Shikasha screened at Cannes Directors’ Fortnight 2010 and at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. Hirabayashi’s short films, collectively, have screened at more than 100 film festivals around the world and received many awards.
