Nicolas Provost, a native of Belgium, is a filmmaker and visual artist living and working in Brussels. His work is a reflection on the grammar and experience of cinema and their relationship to visual art. He intends his films to walk the fine line between dualities and to balance between the grotesque and the moving, the beautiful and the cruel, the emotional and the intellectual. His phantasmagorias provoke both recognition and alienation, and they incorporate the viewer’s expectations into an unraveling game of mystery and abstraction. With manipulations of time, Provost’s films analyze codes, form, language, and elements of cinematography, shifting accents to tell new stories.
